CHAPTER

Climate Refugees - Is There a Status in International Law?

I wouldn't be against it, but I don't think that it would provide a solution to the problem. One reason is that most of the people are internally displaced which means any status in international law would not apply to them. And we should not forget that many developing countries see the attempt of providing a legal status to climate refugees as some kind of obligation that the North would impose upon them. So there are many things that can be done through domestic and international law. I just think that we should not consider that a status ininternational law would be a silver bullet.
