The God of the Old Testament Is the God of the New Testament

Matthew loves to bookend things. Jesus will call the Pharisees and scribes a brood of vipers. He calls them out on that. The God of the Old Testament demanded an ask for above all else love. And so I think we have to learn how to read the Old Testament rightly.
