Zen Stories - The Folly of Imitating
In Jungian thought, the persona is an aspect of the collective psyche, and not the personal psyche. In Yun Men's answer to the question, what is Buddha? Is that Buddha is, quote, a dried shitstick, unquote? This is the kind of answer intended to shock or startle one out of a state of adoration or worship. There is another Zen story I'm familiar with that speaks to the folly of mere imitation. A ninth century Chinese Zen master named Jazzy Yeezy would simply hold up his index finger,. and astonishingly people would receive enlightenment.
