Fairy tales seem to have sprouted up for one reason of another, but survived because various cultures found archetypal messages that helped them and their children. Sometimes von Franz would think about a fairy tale in terms of an event that has happened in the collective unconscious. There's something may have happened along these lines in the external world, but it goes deep in the human psyche that we really get it.
