Movies are unafraid to lean on the status bar to create tension. The net creates pop-up screens all the time, and none of them are logically motivated. They're basically there to create a sense of obscuring facts or like new information. A lot of graphics and assets that are dumb and impossible to create tension just sort of assume you don't know anything about computers.
