Blair and New Labour - The People's Princess

Blair and Gordon Brown came into office very much wanting to say that they were the competent ones when it came to managing Britain's place in the world economy. They knew what competence was and that was what demarcated them from their conservatives. I think Chris is also right that we could only understand the rise of new labour in the context in which certain economic questions had been depoliticised.
