The Different Concepts of Lung Protective Ventilation

Lung protective ventilation broadly is try to limit that, and operationally that comes out as linear tidal volumes. Open lung is the idea that if you can recruit the lung and spread the damage out over more lung, then overall there will be less damage for a given tidal volume or for a given driving pressure. The ARMA trial conclusively demonstrated that 12 per kilo and plateau pressure limits of 50 are harmful. What it less conclusively demonstrated was that six per Kilo and pressure limits of 30 are beneficial. And so even now I think the adult world has a real bit of tension alongside the academic certitude that is often presented in pediatrics too.
