Kathy Acre's work conveys with language the sense of being lost inside it. She had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996, but refused conventional treatment. The bail-full incantatory tone of her writing felt a lot closer to life as it was unfolding. Her possessed, protean voice was the only way I could find accurately to report on what this felt like.
