More than 38 thousand personnel, including health care workers and members of the military were deployed to shanghai from other regions. The economic implications are very real as many critical supply chains originate in this area. According to one economist at the university of hong kong, the current shut down is costing china at least forty six billion dollars a month. And there's no sign of china's backing off this strategy for the time being.
