The Art of Manliness

CHAPTER

What's the Longest Fast on Record?

Longest fast on record was 382 days by a Scotsman in the 1960s who weighed 456 pounds at the start of his fast. The body's preferred fuel is glucose, but when we go without food for long enough, the body will shift its metabolism so that it can run on ketones. But they usually make these repairs only at a very low rate because they're so busy most of the time with other things.
