The Importance of Community in Loneliness
When he was served as surgeon general the first time around, I took it seriously. But I made a really critical mistake: I put everything else aside to do my job. That turned out to be a big mistake because not only did I not have the sustenance that I needed to help prevent burnout. When a job ended and without the work that brought me meaning, I suddenly realized that I had no community. And I felt ashamed about that. So I know what it feels like to struggle with loneliness. I also know what it feel like to be lifted up.
