The Importance of Honesty
If you have to say your story is true in order to get people to read it, but it's fake, then you don't deserve to get read. There was a book that I was into that has been highly called in the question. Game of Thrones is completely fictional and it got read a lot. But this person decided that they would be greedy and focus on their own wealth and fame by tricking people. So either write a true story that's moving or write a story that's obviously fiction and sells like Game of Thrones.
