Rutherford and the Chemistry of the Atom
Mary Rutherford was a key figure in the discovery of radioactivity. Her work is seen as more important than her husband's, but they were working on different issues. She helped to prove that radioactivity must be an atomic phenomenon rather than a chemical. But she also had other interests such as setting up standards for manufacturing and medical research.
