The Immutability of Gold

Newton was obsessed with alchemy and tried for, I think almost a decade to transmute other elements into gold. He became convinced of the immutability of gold and that made him a good candidate for someone who is establishing the foundations or in charge of what would you say, guarding the foundations of the monetary system itself. But he recognized that this was an element that was exemplary and that money needed to be something that was physical, rooted in nature.
