The Dragon Riders of Pern series was by Anne McCaffrey. I loved how they had these fantasy elements, dragons and people writing dragons. But it was in a science fictional context. So that kind of blend of the fantasy in the science fiction and the sort of blurry border between them is something that I wanted to impart in the world too.
