Cisco's first acquisition was Crescendo Communications, a company that sold network switches. "We then got these products to play together," says Cisco CEO John Chambers. In 1995, the company moved out of enterprise businesses into service providers like AT&T and Verizon. The move from selling data to selling transmission of voice and then video is part of what led to its success.
