Comedies have a tendency to stop being comic when serious drama is introduced. There's probably a 20, 25 minute sequence where there is not a single joke in the film. And yet, it's none the less integral our ability to laugh at what comes next. We have to think something really big is at stake, or things just wouldn't be funny.
