The Role of Traditional Knowledge in Climate Change Adaptation Strategies

A large part of these studies did pertain to water scarcity because that is a major issue in agriculture. And it also stems from the fact that a large portion of adaptation strategies are reactive, rather than forward looking. We want them to lead to more transformative outcomes like farmers shifting to livelihoods which are less sensitive to climate change. Some farmers there, they successfully adapted to a drought in 2014 by practicing Bethma. It's a traditional drought management technique wherein people whose land had more access to water shared their land with farmers who did not have access to water.
