Why Is There Such a Thing as Intention?

When i was in catholic church, hearing about all the ways we might end up in hell and how salvation might come through baptism. I reasoned myself into what i thought was the best possible thing that could be done for the newly baptized, swift death. My point here is that intention can be for the greatest good, even though terrible suffering evil follows. And why? Because it's the ignorance that makes the difference. There is no supernatural heaven and no god to reward such an angel of death. But if one remains unconsciously in a religious mind set, one thinks evil necessarily has to be about intention.
