We wanted to get in as unobtrusively as possible with two helicopters, four gunships and a forward air controller flying around over the LZ. We had not anticipated the LZ to be hot so we were not going to prep it - meaning that the gunships would shoot them up. They might not hit us on the LZ but they definitely would once we got down to where the wreckage was. So you're going very slowly down through there. Plus it's very wet, it's muddy, it's slippery. You're just expecting them to be anywhere.
