Aren't We Evolved to Detect Patterns?

The brain evolved dofined patterns, cause patterns are a more efficient description of the information you are getting in. So even seeing red is actually seeing the meaning of the pattern of light that falls on to your eye. But aren't we, aren't we em don't we tend to see patterns where none exist? And an example would be seeing a snake in the grass where no snake exists. In a lower state of power, you are more likely to detect pattern even when pattern doesn't exist.
