A device called shark guard generates a strong electrical pulse every two seconds. When there's a strong enough field, the sharks are overstimulated and repelled rather than attracted. Scientists conducted a pilot study to test how well these worked off of the coast of France. The hooks that had shark guards on them caught 91% fewer shark and 71% fewer stingrays than those without it.
