The Eristocracy of Central Italy
By the sixth century BC, Central Italy had become one of the most urbanized and sophisticated places in the Mediterranean world. City after city had grown up on the volcanic plateaus and in the river valleys that dominated the region. The land was fertile and productive for both staple crops and secondary products such as wine grapes and olives. Unsurprisingly, metalworking was highly advanced in Etruria and Latium, and some of the finest works were produced by Italian Smiths.
