The History of the VMF 214 Squadron

The first VMF 214, just so everybody is aware, was actually commissioned at Everfield in Hawaii and on Oahu on July 1, 1942. They saw a little bit of combat in the Solomon Islands, but really didn't do much of anything. In August of 1943, after a very short combat tour, the Swashbucklers were disbanded and their unit designation became VMF 214.
