We've Got a Fish's Ear

Our inner ear is essentially a tube of sea water with tiny little hairs in it. The middle ear bones and all these flaps on the outside of our head are just directing stuff to the watery core where we're hearing as aquatic creatures. Our sense of balance, right, in the semicircular canals in our ears, that is also derived from that's how fish feel how they're moving through the water. All vertebrate animals on land are really just fish that have only recently climbed onto land.
