If you put the actual clue smack dab in the middle of a list, they won't see it. So if I say, in Shades of Milk and Honey, I have a dueling pistol literally on the mantle in the first act. You give information in a way that the reader assumes they know why you're giving it. That's the best way to slide this foreshadowing in is this idea.
