The Importance of Being a Black Parent
I was struck by how those two things coexisted for you and so much so that I actually thought about it for days after I finished reading your book. And one of the things that you write about is the struggle of being seen and not seen a paradox to be sure like you're too seen for your blackness on the one hand and then not seen enough or invisibilized. But what I hope is that it will inform him when we have sort of certain kinds of arguments or conversations in which I am trying to explain to him, I did not have a black parent.
