There has been a general way, much less deferential age than maybe 50 years ago. We sort of think it's fine to be anger and that righteous anger is OK. But we praise commentators who get angry in public forums but also love it when they recant as well. I'm really talking about the kind of centrist rage that we have in the UK. Even people who claim to take anger seriously seem to take up the tools of populism. It's just getting angry yourself and using anger to try and be angry people. And that, as we know, is never a good idea because anger has its own dynamic and it consumes.
