The Misdirection of Transport Investment

An obsession with objective metrics of time and distance has caused transport investment to become detached from what humans really care about. I fantasize about a two hour train ride because it's the most productive I'm gonna be all week. If you connected those stations with pods you would face a huge uphill struggle to get the funding as everyone would say we're not as fast as the tube. And so this utter nonsense around speed and capacity and punctuality have just led an extraordinary misdirection of transport investment now by contrast there are forms of transit which you can't justify using those metrics but people like them.
