James Fortin heard the Declaration of Independence read out loud on January 8, 1776. He grew up in Philadelphia during the years of the war. This is where the first formal anti-slavery society meets in 1775 and then reconvenes in the 1780s. So I think James Fortin would still be influenced by those activities.
