Darwin said that females would also choose a male as well, but they'd be the winner. Female passivity, that notion, which you can see in humans is not the rule. The sage grouse are a great example of these sort of ludicrous courtship rituals. They have this inflatable throat sack that they go down masses of air and blow it up like a big balloon. And what makes the whole scene even more hilarious than the ludicrousness of what they're doing is the females look like they're completely uninterested.
