The Original Thirteenth Amendment

Delegates from both the north and the south get together to try to figure out some sort of compromise. And ultimately they determine that the crittendon compromise is actually a pretty good plan. They produce a plan that looks very similar to this, and they send it on to congress. Congress not that receptive. It didn't work the first time. So even though the washington peace conference produces this interest in compromise on behalf of these folks, congress is going to go a slightly different direction. Ultimately, they are going to come together on an amendment known as the corwin amendment, or the original thirteenth amendment.
