Is There a Pattern in Asteroids and Comets?

We do have ways to predict things that's not always completely accurate, but it's based on like probabilities. Like maybe we can't precisely predict when an asteroid would hit us, but we have an idea of the rough probability of asteroid hitting us over the history of our planet. People have looked for these kinds of things in our galaxy like periodic events that happen over tens of millions of years That might trigger asteroids and comets to hit the earth on some sort of time scale. And there's a couple of candidates. One is sort of plausible and the other one is kind of crazy and dramatic.
