The Battle of Alcor Island

The Battle of Alcor Island in 1776 really laid the groundwork for the Battle of Saratoga. Arnold knew there was a huge British invasionary force that had been assembled at the northern part of Lake Champlain. He came up with a plan of hiding his fleet inside Valcor Island on what's now the New York side of lake. And so it wasn't necessarily an American victory, but he was able to fight them to a draw.
