Itheo finds that he can calm robin a little bit by giving him, as almost like bedtime stories, these journeys to other planets. The novel is intercut with these interludes where father and son travel together in their imagination to these other worlds. And each of these worlds is a kind of experiment where life becomes something else because the conditions that life is handed are so radically different. To me, that's at the heart of this book.
