The Virtues of Charity and Mortification

St. Eologious the Alexandrian took into his house a poor wretch who was riddled with disease and disfigured with leprosy, so that he might exercise the virtues of charity and mortification by caring for him. The King St. Louis visited hospitals and served the sick with his own hands as diligently as though he were a man earning wages and such service. When assaulted by any vice, we must as earnestly as possible embrace the practice of the opposed virtue,. In our exercise of the other virtues also refer our activity to it as well. See Psalm 45 verses 13 through 14.
