The RCMP's Decision to Name the Victim as January Marie LaPouze
January Marie LaPouze was stabbed to death at her home in British Columbia. The RCMP released a press release about the fatal stabbing, but used January's birth name and male pronouns instead of her legal name. A spokesperson for the police department said they have discretion to write their releases as they see fit. In an interview with Extra Magazine, journalist Jeremy Haynesworth asked why they made that decision.
