Meyer v. Nebraska, one of the most important civil liberties decisions in the United American history began in a one room schoolhouse in rural Nebraska and when Robert Meyer defied a law that prohibited teaching German to elementary school children. This statute had its origins in the anti-German hysteria that swept the nation during the first rule war.
