The State Department says that Progosian's direct questioning of this rationale for Putin's war in Ukraine is a new development. But the truth is Putin was able to fairly quickly and bloodlessly thwart this, whatever it was. I'm not sure we can even call it an attempted coup, but an attempted challenge to the authority of the Russian state.
