Gambling was once a popular pastime in georgian britain. The city's first master of ceremonies, richard beau nash, vowed to transform bath into a playground for the rich in search of genteel amusement with a salacious twist. Bath has recently been reimagined through the opening of a three story casino complex. Gambling was seen as legitimate arena for performative displays of civility and status.
