What Would a More Perfect Union Look Like?
The attacks on teaching American history, I think, are part of a larger project of attacking the public good altogether. Between homeschooling Christian academies and segregation academies, we have a whole shadow version of education in this country that doesn't get the kind of attention it needs to. And let me just say that even though I'm somewhat pessimistic at the moment about our political system, in a longer term sense, I'm more optimistic.
