The Power of Music in Collective Rituals

Most collective rituals in the world include music and some kind of rhythmic coordination. Rituals are so good at creating this sense of collective effervescence because they're able to trigger all sorts of different mechanisms at the same time. Can imagine it happening a lot at rock concerts where people are increasingly together, you can almost see it. And we really feel like one when we ask people why they perform the rituals perhaps at first they look puzzled. They don't have a particular purpose in mind, but this is why it's important to do anthropology work.
