V is the only Soviet horror film ever made. It's based on a goggle short story and it's very folkloric at the beginning. The Soviets can't do horror really, can they? And nothing really happens for 40 minutes. Then there's this explosion of a sort of sub-harmahora ending with all the ghouls and creepy crawlies coming out the woodwork inside the church. For me, it had a very powerful folkloric sense of the children's fables that the Soviets used to do so well as animations.
