Before the Cold War, people would assume non-believers were communist or enemy of U.S., says David Frum. He argues that once the Cold War is over, you see this rise of people willing to admit they're not a believer and it doesn't make them un-patriotic. The internet opened up those spaces for people to play around with ideas, hang out with other people, he says. And then finally, there's circular logic: Human beings are herd creatures; we tend to do what our neighbors are doing.
