Pesticides - The Chemicals That Were Toxic
In the 19 fifties, high level congressional hearings on the amount and type of chemicals in the food supply. The delany amendment focused on one kee feared effect of all these chemicals, and that was cancer. And it gave chemical manufactures a sense that they could still be used as long as they weren't present in the final fruit or vegetable product. It also led to legislative proposals to try to deal with this problem.
