Is Software Development a Branch of Engineering?
I strongly believe that software development is a branch of engineering, whether we like it or not. There's a recurring pattern I see among people in our field to think in terms of good and bad or best practices and everything else is crappy. So articulate trade offs, that's a good one. Those are good ones. How about you, Glenn? For me, I could go on about this for a long time. But the one that I keep hammering on a lot recently has been: Engineering is use of heuristics to achieve a desirable outcome within the applicable constraints."
