Ariane Fennetto is one of the authors of my beloved pocket Bible. She and her co-author Barbara Berman created a database of 400 pockets from history. They traced women's pockets through old Bailey court cases, adverts appealing for return of lost or stolen pockets. Among other things, they revealed their contents to contain small round tortoise shell snuff books,. A London almanac, an ivory carved toothpick case; two glass smelling bottles? Ariane: "If we have pockets at all, obviously, will fit maybe half of your phone"
