Can a Weighted Blanket Help You Sleep Better?

A weighted blanket is heavier than your usual duvet. They're normally filled with either plastic pellets or glass beads. Extra weight provides a light pressure that has a therapeutic effect. For some this leads to a sense of calm, reduced anxiety and better sleep. Research from Uppsala University in Sweden suggests that sleeping with a weighted blanket generated 32% higher levels of melatonin. If you suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, asthma or claustrophobia, then you should avoid them. It's not always recommended for children.
