The Benefits of Generalists
The plus side of generalists is that you end up knowing whatever companies you're working with really, really well. Depending on the operating team, the size, you may be pulling in relevant functional industry experts to drive some sort of transformation or change. But I think it's you are coordinating, but potentially deeper with a fewer portfolio companies. It would be incredibly egocentric to think that a generalist would understand the details of sales, marketing, product, finance across all industries.
