King griffith was effective at seizing territory, but not that great at domestic policy. He doesn't seem to have been fostering the sort of courtly environment that would endear him to his subjects. Much like his contemporary, macbeth, he seems to have been making enemies at every turn. It could also explain why griffith would be remembered as a tyrant,. But when griffith half brother blethen would later succeed him on the throne, he quickly acquired a reputation as a major reformer of the legal system. Because legal reform is a pretty good way to try and course correct a kingdom after a tyrannical reign.
